St. Mark Catholic Church

THE CHALLENGE

For 25 years, the faith family of St. Mark Catholic Church in Argyle, Texas, celebrated Mass in temporary buildings. Despite the temporary home, the community grew from 400 families in 1996 to more than 2,700 families today. This growth presented a challenge and an opportunity – it was time to build a permanent church home for the St. Mark community.

THE VISION

The Building a Community to Worship as One campaign aimed to build a new church that includes:

• 34,185 square feet
• 1,800 seating capacity, more than double the current space
• Spanish mission-style design
• Energy-efficient heating, cooling and lighting systems
• Two cry rooms
• Bridal changing room
• Additional parking

THE SOLUTION

St. Mark partnered with the Steier Group on a successful campaign planning study before launching a comprehensive capital campaign. With $6.5 million in savings, the parish needed to raise as much as possible to limit any loans from the diocese for the $17.5 million church. Despite delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic, this faith community worked together to raise more than $10 million, exceeding the campaigns goals and limiting the loan needed from the diocese. The parish is scheduled to celebrate Mass in a beautiful, permanent church by Dec. 2023.
